Why SpellMistake exists

Small utilities should not cost you an email address, three clicks and a monthly reminder that you could be paying for the pro version.

SpellMistake is a set of seven free tools for people who write on the web and care whether it gets found. A spell checker, a word counter, an article rewriter, and four utilities for the technical side of SEO — sitemaps, robots.txt, URL encoding and page weight. That is the whole site, plus a blog where we write about the things the tools are for.

The tools are free because they cost us almost nothing to run. Five of the seven never touch a server: the code arrives with the page and does its work inside your browser tab, which is why they are instant and why we could not read your text even if we wanted to. The two that do need a server — checking a page’s weight, and pulling a list of URLs off a page — make a single request through our own infrastructure, and say so on the page before you use them.

There is no free tier here, because there is nothing behind it. No account, no usage counter, no feature held back for a plan that does not exist. If a tool stops being worth maintaining we will say so and take it down, rather than quietly degrade it into an advertisement for something else.

Who is behind it

SpellMistake is a small independent project, not a venture-funded company with a team page. We would rather spend the effort on the tools than on stock photographs of people pointing at whiteboards. If something is broken, wrong, or missing, tell us — that is genuinely the fastest route to it being fixed.

01

Free, with no second act

No trial, no metering, no upgrade path. The tools you can use today are all the tools there are.

02

Private by construction

Most of the tools cannot send your text anywhere, because they never make a request. That is a design choice, not a promise.

03

Plainly explained

Every tool page says what the tool does, what it cannot do, and where it will let you down. Including the rewriter.

Seven tools, none of them behind a signup.
